Three brothers shine as Bayswater romps home

28/05/2008 12:17:00 PM
IT was a first for Bayswater Football Club when three brothers played together in the senior side last weekend.

The Murphy boys - Jayden, 17, Darren, 21 and Leigh, 23 - combined to give Bayswater a solid 40-point win over Ringwood at Bayswater Oval.

Leigh said the three of them had played practice matches before, but this was the first time they had played together in a senior match.

"We've all played our junior footy there [at Bayswater],'' said Leigh.

"We've been involved at the club for a number of years.

"It was a really positive day.''

All those years mucking around in the backyard paid off, with Leigh saying the brothers were able to form a connection on the field.

"We've been out there for years kicking around and it translated pretty well and we were able to link up a couple of times.''

Seeing his three boys on the field brought on the tears for father Robert, who has been a member of the committee for many years.

Leigh said his father had been a source of great support for the three brothers, and last week's encounter was a very proud day for him.

According to Leigh, Robert was "emotional'' , but was "glowing'' with pride. "It was great for him,'' said Leigh.

"He was straight on to us from a young age.''

It was Jayden's debut match, and from all reports he earned himself best on ground honours. With Leigh and Darren also putting in consistent performances, chances are the three brothers will be lining up for Bayswater for some time yet.
